On A More Serious Note

The Rude Pundit visited some of the carnage that still exists in New Orleans and surrounding neighborhoods. It makes me want to cry.

I know that it takes time to rebuild. There are houses still with FEMA tarps on them from Hurricane Andrew in Florida. But I wonder, how long will it be? And you know, why? Is this what my tax dollars get me? I work and pay taxes, and all it gets is the inevitable death of entire cities and neighborhoods? Fuck that, makes me not want to pay taxes anymore. What about schools? I pay taxes for those. Or hell, about twelve thousand other things that I would prefer that my tax money went to instead of a bunch of lying, money grubbing cowards who want to throw away America for the Almighty Dollar. People who want everyone to live in fear and despair so that not only can they make a profit, they can fill their swimming pools and yachts with quarters and dive around in it.

It makes me sick.

Stuff

A green puppy. I wonder how long it will remain green. I like the name that the owners gave it...very fitting.

Oh, and now I know where to go if I ever really needed to get a plushie tampon. (Really. And toilet paper. You gotta click it to believe it!)

Just a note...

I am sure that in addition to drug dealing, my mom would've gone for this. You know, to supplement the income.

Nothing Short of Random
This from msn.com, about teenagers and shoplifting:

"89% of kids say they know other kids who shoplift."

WHY is that statistic in there? That doesn't tell anyone anything. It's a false "shocking statistic". Yeah, I knew people who shoplifted, but they were the same six people that the WHOLE school knew shoplifted. They made no secret of it. It was pretty obvious. "Oooo....My kid knows someone who shoplifted something." In fact, check out the handful of teens who shoplift versus the number of people in general that are arrested for shoplifting. Profiling? Teens aren't always that evil....

Maybe I'm Not So Wrong After All

This is an article taken from MSN's website about fathers in alternative families (single dads, gay dads, etc.). It's nice to know that fathers can have the same worries as mothers and completely reinforces my belief that marriage that includes children should be teamwork and not a "mom says this/dad says this" kind of thing. I want to get married. So I look for a guy that has qualities that I like...I look for a man that I can get along with well...I look for a guy for whom marrage (and fatherhood) is a team effort. And I'm glad that there's something out there that says men can be on the same page as women when it comes to raising children. I also don't want to be a traditional stay-at-home mom. If I'm out at work, and my husband is watching the kids, I certainly would like to know that we're on the same page. For all the talk there was about boys needing their dads (or males that they can communicate with), only in the past few years are people starting to notice that girls need their daddies too. I am lucky to have grown up in a two parent home and am especially glad that I have my dad. After all, who the hell else is going to teach me how to fix flats, change spark plugs, or how to fix a leaky toilet? Certainly not my mother. My mother just wants it to work. My dad knows how to fix it. Dads truly are a wonderful thing.
